Money-Saving Tips for a Wedding

For about the past month or so I’ve been doing a lot of consultation with a college friend of mine who is getting married at the end of June. Understandably, she has tons of questions about planning a wedding and it’s been a blessing for me to be able to be the one to give her advice based on my recent wedding experience. Throughout our wedding talk, I’ve noticed that her biggest concern has been getting the most while spending the least on things for her wedding. This was a huge concern of mine as well, and I’m sure there are many other soon-to-be brides out there worrying about the same thing. Because of this, I was compelled to write an article on eHow.com entitled “How to Save Money on Your Wedding”. The article only took me about 30 minutes to write as I have read and come up...

Telemarketers, Let Me Be Honest With You

January 23, 2009

Ok, I’m just going to tell you the honest truth. If you are a telemarketer, odds are that no one really wants to talk to you. At least, not while you’re on the job. And especially not while we’re on the job. I’m sorry. But it’s true. When people are going through their daily grind, the last thing they want to do is talk to someone trying to sell them something they don’t need. Now, many of you telemarketers may have to speak with people who can be uber rude to you just because you’re a telemarketer. I’m sorry for that. I truly am. Because I’m the kind of person that always tries to treat others the way that I would want to be treated. If you call my store, I’ll answer the phone, and I will be very straightforward with you. If you ask for my manager, I...

My Gluten-Free Boredom

January 19, 2009
By

It’s almost 1pm on Monday afternoon and I’m sitting here at work doing nothing but munching on my fabulous gluten-free/wheat-free/casein-free/milk-free/egg-free pretzels while my coworker wanders around the store talking to herself in barely audible Chinese complaining about how badly the store is doing (No, I don’t understand Chinese. I just know that’s what she’s complaining about because that’s all she talks about these days). Needless to say, I’m bored out of my mind. Thus the munching on pretzels. I’m one of those boredom eaters. But at least I’m being healthy about it! Seriously, working in a retail job during times like this can be uber discouraging. All people ever talk about at work is money, the economy, numbers, sales, and the like. And right now that is all very negative talk. “This weekend very bad,” says my elderly Chinese coworker. “No sales. No people come into the store. What...

I’m Going a-Hunting

January 16, 2009
By

So I just submitted my resume to two different companies who had posted some job openings on Craigslist. And now I get to sit in anticipation for the next week or so as I wait for a (if any) response from one or both of those companies. I find that this is always the hardest part of job hunting. I’ve spent a good amount of time updating my resume, making sure that the appropriate skills are highlighted for the company to notice. I’ve spent even more time drafting a cover letter to create that oh-so-important first impression to get someone to even look at my resume. And all that time comes down to this…the Waiting Game. Oh how I hate the Waiting Game. Mainly because I always lose. But what can I do, right? I would have to say that Job Hunting has to be the worst part of...

Changes

January 14, 2009
By

These past 30 days have been days of change for myself, and for my family. Personally, I have been through many big changes in this past month. The biggest change was getting married to my husband not even a month ago. Marriage in and of itself is a huge change. I didn’t have to change where I lived, but now there is a lot of change going on with how I live. I now have to take my husband into consideration before I do even the simplest of things like leaving laundry on the floor or leaving a dirty dish out on the counter. I can no longer watch whatever I want whenever I want or go somewhere on a whim. But the same goes for my husband. And I think it’s harder for him since he’s the one who tends to leave the laundry and the dishes everywhere....
