The Thank You Card Experiment

Ok, so as I have talked about before, I have been commissioned by a college friend of mine to make some of the stationery for her wedding. This includes her thank you cards. We started with an uber simple design, which she approved. But being the anal perfectionist that I am, I ended up spending 5 hours today playing with other designs since our original idea was just too bare for my satisfaction. And after every design I came up with, I started changing it to an even (in my opinion) better design as a result. I share with you now the results of my experimentation and the evolution of my designs and layouts: Here was our original design: which evolved into this… Then this… (yeah, I don’t know what I was thinking either). Then I finally got around to using a different bride and groom stamp, which was...

My Super Awesome Craigslist Find!!!

Ok so I wanted to post a photo of my super awesome Craigslist find, but I’m having some technical difficulties with my photo uploader. Not too pleased… But ANYWAYS, I’ve been reading a lot lately about Gocco printers. They’re a Japanese home screen printing system and I’ve heard rave reviews about them on my new favorite wedding website, Weddingbee. Some of the members purchased their wedding stationery from Etsy artists who use Goccos to print the designs. Other members have purchased their own Gocco’s to make their own stationery. So of course I got curious. I did some research on goccos and found that they are fairly simple to use printers that can be used to print any design onto stationery. And they’re small enough to fit in any home. After learning what I can do with a gocco, and my desire to branch out into different methods of...

Taking a Breather…

So I am taking a break from my Wallet-Friendly Weddings series. Only because I’m still racking my brain for the next 5 installments to ensure that you get some great money-saving tips that are practical, but won’t leave your wedding on the “tacky” list. But no worries, I’ll still be blogging as regularly as I can about…well…who knows what…haha. If you’re still looking for some ways to save money during my “wallet-friendly sabbatical”, check out this great blog that I discovered last week: Budget Bride. This blogger has a series called her “Skip It List“, which is just like it sounds: a list of things that you can skip for your wedding. Think garter, ring bearer, flower girl, etc. etc. And she doesn’t just tell you what to skip. She also explains why her chosen skips can or should be skipped. Budget Bride also touches on other great topics,...

Wallet-Friendly Weddings: Part V – The Wedding Attire

You’ve picked your date, you’ve picked your stationery, and you’ve got your venue set. Now it’s time for you to pick your dress! Of course, many of you brides have probably had your dress picked out far before you’ve accomplished anything else for your wedding. But nothing is wrong with that. You will be the center of attention on your wedding day, after all, so you’ll of course want to look your absolute best and beautiful. And your wedding dress plays a big role in achieving that wedding day look. We’ve all fantasized over our perfect dress. We’ve drooled over image after image of white tulle, bunched satin, or delicate lace in the form of a beautiful and flowing wedding gown. And we’ve all cringed at the high price tags many of these “perfect” dresses carry. But there are ways to save on your wedding dress. If you are...

This post is long overdue! I apologize to anyone who may have been waiting for this next installment. I have been busy with many things as of late. I recently quit my job so that I can focus on getting Scraps of Life off the ground, so I was finishing up things at work. And I’ve been preparing for my hubby’s homecoming. He was gone at sea for a month and just returned on Saturday morning. But now that all that has been taken care of, I can finally get back to helping you take care of your wedding planning! So here is Part IV! Enjoy! Location: Your wedding venue is one of the most expensive elements of your wedding (or the most expensive element if your venue is also your caterer). But there are still ways to strategize when picking your ceremony and reception locations and cut some...
