Wedding Wednesday 14: My Best Friend’s Wedding

June 9, 2010

For today’s Wedding Wednesday post, I am super excited to share with you a little bit of one of my best friends’ wedding. I left on Sunday morning and flew from San Diego to Denver, Colorado then drove to Copper Mountain to attend this beautiful event. My friend Taylor has been like a sister to me for four years. We met on a missions trip in Ireland teaching sport camps to the youth there. We both fell in love with Ireland and returned for more missions trips, and it was on one of these trips that our friendship grew to the sisterhood that it has become. We have been through so much together and I was so blessed to be able to be there on her wedding day.

The wedding was such a beautiful thing. She had her ceremony outdoors with a fabulous view of the mountains behind the altar. I admit, I shed a few tears as I watched my best friend walk down the aisle and exchange vows with her husband. She looked absolutely gorgeous in her wedding dress, and the setting itself was just amazing. And the reception was an absolutely fun time. There was a lot of laughter, a lot of dancing, and a lot of joy and excitement. I was so happy to be present as my friend went from Miss to Mrs.

I was also extremely blessed to be a small part of her wedding. I wasn’t in the wedding party, but I did make the wedding programs for Taylor’s wedding. I made them as a wedding present for the lovely couple, and they were pleased with what I created for them.

I absolutely loved creating these programs because they are so simple, yet so elegant. Which is exactly what the bride wanted. Taylor is such a laid back person with a huge sense of fashion. And I knew her programs had to reflect that. So I kept the design minimal. I let the colors and lines do all the work. Just a few layers of cardstock and one stamp from the Elements of Style set, and a beautiful, simple, and sophisticated wedding program was born.

I think this design is a great example of how simple can be stunning. This is definitely a program that you can create yourself. DIY doesn’t always need a ton of bells and whistles to impress others. Keeping things simple and clean can have just the same impact as something more complicated. So if you’re a DIY bride looking to make your own wedding stationery, remember that you don’t always need a lot of embellishment to make something that catches the eye. Keep things simple and you’ll still impress your guests with your crafting skills, while making your life a lot less stressful.

Well, now that I’m back in San Diego, it’s time for me to get back to work! I still have TONS of projects to work on, including an invitation design for a bride in Chicago, and of course I need to work on a tutorial for my Happy Tears Tissue Boxes. I have been so excited to see the responses I’ve received from all of you complimenting the tissue boxes or requesting a tutorial. It means so much to me to know that my work is appreciated! And of course I’ll honor your requests and make that tutorial for you, so be on the lookout for that in the next couple of weeks. And remember that my Twitter, Facebook, and Friend Connect followers always get first look at my latest posts and updates. So if you want to know as soon as the tutorial is posted, make sure to follow me online! Just click on the appropriate link up in the top right corner of my blog.

Happy Wednesday everyone! I hope to post again soon! Let me end with one more picture of my bestie and her new husband. It’s a bit blurry (hey, I’m a papercrafter, not a photographer), but I thought it captured the moment quite perfectly :D

Until next time!
