Wedding Wednesday 10 – In 3D!

January 26, 2010

I know it’s not Wednesday, but I need to post this project a little early. Let me explain. Recently I became a co-host(ess) for some new weekly challenges that some fellow Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators are hosting on our private online community called Stampin’ Connection. This online community is only for Stampin’ Up! demos (another great reason to become a demonstrator!), and we are all having a blast getting to know each other and see each others’ work online. And now we’re challenging each other as well! We took the lead from the weekly challenges on SplitCoast Stampers and are hosting our own versions. I volunteered to help host one of the challenges and paired up with demo Amanda to host the weekly 3D challenge! Our challenge day is Wednesdays, so I will have to post my challenge projects here on my blog on Tuesdays so that I can leave the link for my sample first thing on Wednesdays. Thus the early Wedding Wednesday project. But no worries, I don’t foresee all of my future Wedding Wednesday projects coinciding with the 3D challenges.

I’m so excited as I’ve never hosted a challenge before, and I’ve never done 3D challenges before either! So I know this is going to be a fun time for me.

Amanda decided to do an Explosion Box for our first challenge, so here is what I came up with:

I didn’t even know what an explosion box was until Amanda mentioned it to me. I then looked for more examples on the SCS Gallery and found some fantastic ones that were referred to as Magic Boxes. A little more research brought me to Elaine’s fantastic website, She has full tutorials right on her website on how to create your own version of these super fun and beautiful boxes, so be sure to check out her site!

Scraps of Advice:

  • Many of the Magic Boxes I found on the SCS Gallery had floating butterflies or flowers. I decided to get a little Valentine’s Day on you and go with hearts. Plus, they were the perfect complement to go with one of my wedding photos, which I love! :D The hearts were punched out using the Heart to Heart punch.
  • Don’t feel like stamping a design on card stock to decorate your box? Then make your box out of some designer series paper. Here, I used the Bella Blue DSP, perfect for a wedding-related project.
  • To create the lid, I used the Scallop Trim Border Punch (Sale-a-Bration), the Fine Flourish stamp, and some Basic Black ribbon. The Whimsical Words set (also Sale-a-Bration) was used for the sentiment on the front of the box.
  • For tutorials on how to create your own explosion box, check out both the SplitCoast Stampers Tutorial, as well as Elaine’s Magic Box Tutorials.

I had tons of fun creating this little box. And it’s a great little memento of my wedding day. If you know someone who just got married, consider making an explosion box as a unique way to display one of their wedding photos, or do this for one of your wedding photos!

Love this box. I’ve made several myself – even one of my wedding! (no posted on my site yet). Just adore what you’ve done with the hearts, the photo, the mini tags, the scallop punch….and on and on it goes.

Everything is simply ADORABLE! You make the mini tag set look like a must have. Nice job.
