It’s Tuesday and day 2 of our Webbie Workshop Week! That means that we are going to be starting our very first project! Woohoo!

Today’s project is a super clean and simple Christmas card:

For this project, you will need the following items:
Stamp Sets: Delightful Decorations, Four the Holidays
Cardstock: Whisper White – 8.5″ x 5.5″ scored at 4.25″ to make an A2 sized card base, Bermuda Bay – 5 3/8″ x 4 1/8″, Basic Gray – 5 1/4″ x 4″, Scrap piece of cardstock around 2″ square
Ink: Bermuda Bay, Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker
Tools: Ruler, Stamp-a-ma-jig, Ornament punch, Two-Way Glue Pen

Step 1
(I don’t have a photo for this step, sorry!) Using Stampin’ Up!’s Two-Way Glue Pen, apply a small amount of glue in each corner on one side of both your Bermuda Bay and Basic Gray pieces of cardstock. Don’t adhere the pieces together. You want the glue to turn clear so that it will create a temporary bond and not a permanent one.

Step 2
While you’re waiting for the glue to turn clear (which won’t take long at all), use your Ornament punch to punch out the ornament shape from your scrap piece of paper

Step 3
Flip over your Basic Gray cardstock piece (so that the glue side is on the back). Using the ornament shape that you just punched out, position the ornament in the lower right corner of the gray cardstock piece, then trace around the ornament shape using a pencil. Now punch out the ornament from the gray cardstock using your outline as a guide.

Next, layer the gray cardstock piece over your Bermuda Bay cardstock piece (with the glue side on the back), making sure it’s even on all sides. Trace the ornament shape onto the Bermuda Bay cardstock piece using a pencil, then carefully peel off the gray piece (the temporary bond formed by the glue will hold the cardstock pieces in place and also allow you to take the two pieces apart). Use the drawn outline as a guide and punch out the ornament shape from the Bermuda Bay piece. Repeat this step using the Bermuda Bay piece on the Whisper White cardbase. (I tried punching through all three layers of cardstock at once, but the punch couldn’t do it. That’s why I had to do this whole punch and trace and punch step.) Place the layers together and you’ll have an ornament-shaped hole on the front of your card, like pictured below.

Step 4
With the card closed, use the Stamp-a-ma-jig imaging sheet to position the ornament image so that it fits inside your ornament “window”.

Step 5
Holding the imaging sheet in place, carefully open up the card. Then use the Stamp-a-ma-jig to stamp the ornament image on the inside of the card. When the card is closed, you should be able to see the ornament image through the window you punched out.

Step 6
On the Basic Gray piece (none of the layers have been permanently adhered yet), use your Stamp-a-ma-jig to position the sentiment along the bottom left corner. As you can see, the Merry Christmas sentiment was too long to fit on one line. So I used my Basic Black Stampin’ Write marker to ink only one word at a time, and used the Stamp-a-ma-jig to position each word on the card.

Step 7
Using a ruler and your Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker, draw a straight line from the top of the ornament window to the top of the card to create your ornament string.

Step 8
I added a couple of squiggly lines where the ornament string meets the top of the ornament to make it look like a tiny knot.

Step 9
Finally, adhere all your cardstock pieces together, making sure that the ornament window is lined up nicely. You now have a clean and simple Christmas card that is fun on the outside and the inside!

Change It Up!
There are definitely a ton of things that you can do to this card design to make it your own. Besides picking a different sentiment or ornament image, try using real ribbon or chord instead of drawing the ornament string. You can see how this card looks using some Designer Series Paper. Or maybe try making this card without the window, stamping the ornament image right onto the card front. Here’s an example of a different version of this card that I created using the new My Digital Studio:

So go ahead and try making this card yourself! And if you’d like, post a link to your creation in a comment on this post. I’d love to see your take on this project!

I hope you all enjoyed this first Webbie Workshop Week project. If you have any questions about any of the steps (I know I can be a little unclear sometimes), just let me know. I’m always happy to help!

For tomorrow, a very stripey Dasher card!
