Bookmark How-To
I thought I was done posting for the night. But I was so wrong! Haha. I don’t mind, though. Especially since this post is at the request of one or two crafters who saw my bookmarks on SplitCoast Stampers and asked that I provide instructions on how I made these beauties. As a demonstrator, how could I possibly refuse???
I actually got the instructions on how to make these fun corner bookmarks from Stampin’ Success, a Stampin’ Up! publication that is available only to Stampin’ Up! demonstrators. This monthly magazine is full of fun projects and ideas for us demos to share with you. And it’s another great reason to join Stampin’ Up! as a demonstrator! So now let me show you how to make your own fun corner bookmark!
- Start with a 4″ x 4″ piece of cardstock. Then cut away a 2″ x 2″ square from one corner (see Step 1).
- Next, score your cardstock at 2″ from both corners (see Step 2).
- Fold over the two flaps you created by scoring the cardstock (see Step 3).
- Adhere the two flaps together (see Step 4). Make sure to adhere only the two flaps to each other, leaving a nice little pocket for you to tuck your page corner in.
- You now have your blank bookmark! Look at it as a card front and decorate as you like!
- For the bookmarks that I made (I’ll use the pink one for reference purposes), I began decorating them by cutting a 1/2″ x 1 7/8″ strip of Bermuda Bay cardstock. I then inserted this strip into my Scallop Edge Punch to create my nice scalloped strip. TIP: This small strip will fit entirely inside the punch. To align the cardstock, I simply flipped the punch over and used my craft knife to position the strip so that it would punch properly.
- Next I cut a 3/8″ x 1 7/8″ strip of Night of Navy Patterns Designer Series Paper. I carefully adhered my scalloped strip over the pattern strip.
- For the strip near the bottom of the bookmark, I cut a 3/8″ x 1 3/4″ strip of Rich Razzleberry cardstock
- I adhered the Rich Razzleberry strip near the bottom of the bookmark, then adhered my scalloped/patterned strip on the left side of the bookmark, layering this over the Razzleberry strip.
- Using the writing stamp from the Charming stamp set, I stamped the image in Crushed Curry ink on Whisper White cardstock. I then stamped the circle flourish image (also from the Charming set) in Basic Black ink over the writing image.
- Crop the circle flourish image, then layer it over some Kiwi Kiss cardstock (Kiwi Kiss is actually a retired color, but try it with Old Olive cardstock. The two colors are very similar), and crop down.
- Take a small piece of Rich Razzleberry cardstock, approx. 3/8″ x 6/8″, and create a small tab on one side of your stamped image. Adhere this to the bookmark.
- For the final touch, using the Crop-A-Dile 1/8″ hole punch, punch out three small circles of Bermuda Bay cardstock. Carefully adhere these tiny “brads” at the bottom of the bookmark. There you have it! Your very own Charming Bookmark!
Ever since I saw this bookmark project in Stampin’ Success, I’ve been in love with making them! They’re so easy to make, and they are perfect for giving out as gifts or even as favors for a shower or reception. Just start with the basic bookmark and let your imagination take flight with how to design it!
I hope you all have fun making your own bookmarks. And don’t be afraid to try out different stamps and layouts to make the bookmarks your own!
